How To Smell Perfume Bottle
May 13, 2022
If you have a collection of old perfume bottles, miniatures, or necks that are too narrow to use a brush, you can easily rinse the insides by: Filling 3/4 with warm water, a little dish detergent, and about a teaspoon of uncooked rice Full (if it's medium to large, add more if you think you need it). Seal the top and shake, shake, shake and swirl the rice. If the glass is fragile, swirl gently. After cleaning, rinse off rice grains and soapy water, then air dry (without lid or cork, if you have one).
If there is a white film or crusty deposit, try soaking it in a 50/50 vinegar and warm water solution for a few hours or even overnight (fill to the top). Discard the liquid, then add warm soapy water and uncooked rice and proceed as above.
If the bottle is empty: Pour ammonia into it until the cork floats. Set aside for a few days. The cork should have spoiled from the ammonia, and after a few days it should be smaller and not fall out. If it's not empty: Start by pouring the liquid into a carafe or jar and sealing. If there is a cork in the liquid, pour it through a cheesecloth or coffee filter. Then try the ammonia trick above on the now empty container to remove the cork.
If you want to save the cork, you can try this technique: fold a thin cloth napkin or fabric over the opposite corners so you get a triangle. Carefully insert the bottle with the folded side under the cork, making sure to keep enough napkins outside for you to hold. Once you have the cork between the fabrics (with the fold underneath), start pulling the napkin out. As you pull out the fabric, pay attention to the cork, try to place the fabric on top of it.
Here are some tips for getting rid of build-up, stains, and grime inside the vase: Add vinegar and leave overnight. Try orange slices (or other citrus fruits like lemon, grapefruit) and leave it overnight. Make a paste of tartar and water, apply liberally and let it sit for a while. scrub. Soak with lukewarm water and a denture cleaner tablet or packet. Try soaking in ammonia overnight to remove odors: Pour a solution of water and baking soda into a vase and let it sit for a few hours. If the process is not repeated, it should be cleaned and the smell should be gone.
